Bennett Wins Feature as Prunty
Claims Overall Pepsi Challenge Title!!!
By Dan Margetta
Slinger, Wis., Sept. 16—Lowell Bennett used the outside groove
following an early restart to take the lead and never look back en route
to the victory in the 40-lap Pepsi Challenge Series finale late model
feature Sunday afternoon at the Slinger Super Speedway.
“My hat’s off to this crew,” Bennett stated afterwards. “We
destroyed our other car three weeks ago and this is actually our Kaukauna
car and in the last three weeks we ran second, third, and first. What an
awesome race car and awesome race crew I’ve got.”
Dennis Prunty and Florian Wisinski brought the field to the
green flag and Prunty quickly jumped into the early lead. Bennett followed
in third place with Nick Schumacher, Matt Kocourek, and David Prunty close
behind. Wisinski became caught on the outside and fell back by lap 15 as
Bennett, Schumacher, Kocourek, and David Prunty all were able to pass by.
Dennis Prunty extended his lead over Bennett while David Prunty used the
inside to work his way into fourth place as Nick Hammer closed in on the top
five. A spin by Wisinski on lap 24 produced the first caution flag, just as
Bennett eased his way around Dennis Prunty for the lead.
Bennett chose the outside lane on the restart and used it to
charge back to the front as racing resumed, leaving Dennis Prunty to battle
with David Prunty and Nick Schumacher On lap 26, Hammer became caught up
high and he smacked the frontstretch wall, riding it all the way through the
corner before coming to rest in turn two with the caution flag waving again.
Bennett again used the outside lane to keep his lead while Schumacher also
worked the high line to pass David Prunty and pull alongside Dennis Prunty
in a battle for second. As Bennett pulled away out front, Schumacher and
Dennis Prunty staged a tremendous battle for second with Schumacher’s car
working good on the outside lane and Prunty’s car being fast on the inside
despite kicking loose on the exits of the turns. The loose condition on
Prunty’s car contributed slightly to Schumacher’s car sliding wide in turn
four on lap 34, as David Prunty dove to the inside to grab third place. The
Prunty brothers then battle for the second slot with Dennis Prunty taking
the position by lap 36. Bennett maintained his lead all the way to the
checkered flag to score the win over Dennis Prunty and David Prunty. David
Prunty’s third place finish was enough to earn him the overall Pepsi
Challenge Series title over Schumacher who finished fourth. Tommy Pecaro
finished a strong fifth while Mike Egan and Brad Mueller were sixth and
seventh respectively. Conrad Morgan, Matt Kocourek, and Dale Prunty rounded
out the top ten finishers.
Slinger Speedway officials decided to run heat races in a
throwback type format and Dennis Prunty held off Florian Wisinski to win the
first 16-lap late model heat. Scott Schoeni finished third followed by Tommy
Pecaro and Lowell Bennett. Conrad Morgan was the winner of the second late
model heat race over Pete Wiedmeyer and Brad Keith. Dale Prunty and Jerry
Eckhardt rounded out the top five. Matt Kocourek was the fastest qualifier
with a lap of 11.449 seconds.
(Slinger, WI); September 2, 2007 -
Dennis drove Pete Wiedmeyer's #22 Late Model qualified 21st, but redeemed
himself in the
semi-feature by having the fast laps of any of the cars racing on Sunday.
He then got tangled with Florian Wisinski and
Scott Schoeni as they were battling for 2nd place. Dennis pulled off
the track and had the crew pull the loose body parts off and
returned to the track. Not long after returning something else broke
and Dennis could not turn the #22 and went for a ride up the
wall in turns 3 and 4. He then retired for the evening.
Sunday, August 26, 2007 (Slinger, WI) - At the last minute Dennis
decided to take the blue #42 to Slinger and qualifying with the
Milwaukee Mile setup. Qualifying didn't go so
well, but the DDP Team made a few adjustments to get it in race form.
He was able to bring it to a 10th place finish.
KENSETH CAPTURES WIN AT THE MILWAUKEE MILE
By: Kevin Ramsell
Sunday, August 26, 2007 (West Allis, WI) – Matt Kenseth made his return
visit to The Milwaukee Mile a successful one as he held off 36 other
competitors to win the Wisconsin All-Star 50 with Matt Kenseth event. It was
Kenseth’s first win at America’s Legendary Oval.
Earlier in the day, Kenseth qualified his Pathfinder Chassis prepared
Ford Fusion to a new track record of 29.241 seconds (123.114 mph) that was
set last year by Nate Haseleu, who set the mark at 29.260 seconds (123.035
mph). A total of 38 cars took qualified for the main event.
The top eight in qualifying were inverted for the start. Chris Weinkauf
and Dean Cornelius led the field to Tom Powell’s green flag. At the break,
it was Cornelius pacing the field.
Kenseth, who started eighth quickly worked his way to the front and was
up to second place by lap 8. Cornelius jumped out to almost a half a
straightaway lead over Kenseth.
Kenseth was slowly gaining on Cornelius, but lap traffic allowed Kenseth
to catch Cornelius. The two raced side-by-side for the lead as the halfway
signal was given at the start finish line. As the two went into turn one,
Kenseth took the lead on the inside of Cornelius and began to pull away. A
crowd of over 14,000 erupted in cheers as Kenseth cruised down the
backstretch.
Kenseth would go on to a near five second victory over Cornelius and take
home his first ever win at The Milwaukee Mile. Dan Fredrickson made a late
race pass to get around Jesse Saunders for third. Jeremy Lepak rounded out
the top five.
Defending champion, Nate Haseleu was sixth with Steve Carlson in seventh.
Steve Holzhausen finished eighth and Josh Bauer was ninth. Brian Johnson Jr.
rounded out the top-ten.
“It was fun to come here and race with the guys I used to race a lot with
like Steve Carlson and Steve Holzhausen,” Kenseth stated in victory lane
after the race.
“We know he was coming, we kind of were expecting him to come,” Cornelius
stated after the race. “Once he caught me, I knew we were racing for second,
we couldn’t hang on to what he had. We will take this home as a win.”

Bennett Achieves Legendary
Status With Fourth Miller Lite Nationals Title!
By Dan Margetta
(Slinger, WI);
July 17, 2007 - Lowell Bennett
survived a wild Miller Lite Nationals Tuesday night at the Slinger Super
Speedway capturing his fourth victory in the 250-lap late model special to
join legendary racers Dick Trickle and Joe Shear as the only three drivers
to accomplish the feat.
“It’s an honor to included in that crowd (with Trickle and Shear),” an
extremely happy Bennett stated from Victory Lane after leading 171 laps en
route to a 4.8 second victory over Jeremy Lepak and Brad Mueller. “It
doesn’t get much better and it was an awesome night.”
The toughest
challenge Bennett faced all night was just making the feature field as he
was forced to race his way into the line-up by winning the qualifying race
after just missing the cut in time trials.
“We were real disappointed at missing the show early, “ Bennett continued,
“But boy…what a race car. That thing was just fun.”
J.R. Norris and Kelly Bires paced the 24-car field to the green flag and
Norris quickly jumped to the lead from the outside lane while Bires battled
with Brad Mueller, Matt Kocourek, and Jeremy Lepak. NASCAR Nextel Cup star
Kyle Busch used the outside lane to rocket his way from his twelfth starting
position to fifth by lap four just before the caution flag waved when the
hood on Conrad Morgan’s car flew up and Steve Carlson spun to avoid his
slowing machine. Norris chose the outside lane for the restart and the move
proved costly as Mueller timed the restart perfectly and took over the point
using the inside lane, bringing Kocourek along with him into second. A lap
later, the yellow was displayed again for an incident involving Todd
Stapleman in turn one as Mueller led followed by Kocourek, Norris, Busch,
and Lepak.
As racing resumed, Busch was on the move again, swiping by Norris for third
as Kocourek challenged Mueller for the lead. Mueller and Kocourek battled
alongside each other for the top spot while farther back, NASCAR Nextel Cup
star Matt Kenseth moved into the top ten. Kocourek managed to edge Mueller
to lead lap 16 while Tony Strupp slid wide through turn three and in the
ensuing gridlock Josh Bauer, Al Schill, and Rich Bickle spun around to draw
the caution flag. Once again Mueller timed the restart and shot ahead of
Kocourek for the lead while Lepak and Busch fought over third before Busch
claimed the spot on lap 19. With Mueller out front, Busch ducked inside of
Kocourek a lap later to claim second place leaving Lepak to race with
Kocourek and Dennis Prunty for third. Once into second, Busch quickly
tracked down Mueller and worked his way by to take the lead on lap 24 while
Kenseth continued to move forward and into seventh. A multi-car spin in turn
one produced yet another caution flag on lap 33 and during the slowdown,
Kenseth’s bid to defend his 2006 Nationals title was derailed as he exited
the event with an oil line issue.
“It lost all its oil, and so the engine needs to be checked out anyway,”
Kenseth said. “We could have got it fixed and got out there maybe 20 minutes
later, but to be 80 laps down and take a chance is kind of dumb. These
motors are too expensive to do that.”
Mueller was once again quick on the button on the restart and he retook the
lead from Busch and Lepak moved into second a few laps later as Busch’s car
became loose in the corners. The handling continued to go away on Busch’s
machine and he exited the speedway with tire issues.
“We had a flat left rear, left front and right front,” Busch said. “Just
running over stuff, I guess. Nobody else is having a problem but us.”
“This thing was just bad fast, but you’ve got to finish,” Busch continued.
“I got the lead and I was running 70%.”
Mueller continued to pace the event over Lepak while Eric Fransen and Tony
Strupp advanced forward into third and fourth respectively as Bennett worked
his way into the top five. The yellow flag was unfurled again on lap 46 when
Norris slowed suddenly after having rear suspension problems. Mueller and
Lepak raced hard for the lead as racing resumed and Lepak took the lead on
lap 49 just before another slowdown occurred on lap 50 when Dick Trickle
looped around in turn three after contact with Busch.
Lepak maintained his lead on the restart as Fransen moved into second ahead
of Bennett and Strupp as Mueller became caught on the outside and fell back
in line in fifth. With Lepak out front, Bennett was able to slip by Fransen
for second on lap 69 and gradually began to track his way toward the lead.
By lap 75, Bennett was within striking distance of the lead and four laps
later, he moved alongside Lepak, taking command of the race on lap 80.
Bennett began to pull away from the field while Strupp charged into second
place as Trickle left the speedway with mechanical problems on lap 106. With
the halfway point in sight, Fransen began to lose ground as both Mueller and
Matt Kocourek passed by and into fourth and fifth place respectively.
As the field paused for a mandatory ten-minute break at the halfway mark,
Bennett led Strupp, and Lepak while Mueller and Kocourek were fourth and
fifth.
The second half belonged to Bennett as he extended his lead as racing
resumed while Strupp and Lepak tried to close the gap between themselves and
the leader. Behind the top three, Mueller held down fourth as Kocourek and
Schill raced for the fifth slot.
The make up of the race changed drastically on lap 176 as Dennis Prunty spun
in turn four and nosed his car into the fronstretch wall, sending up a plume
of smoke. In the midst of the thick smoke, Strupp looped his car around in
an attempt to avoid Prunty and was immediately met nose-to-nose by Lepak’s
car. The damage to Strupp’s machine was enough to retire him from the race,
but Lepak was able to rejoin the event despite heavy damage to the front of
this car.
Bennett maintained the lead over Mueller and Schill as racing resumed while
Kocourek was
forced to deal with Lepak, who wheeled his damaged car into a battle over
fourth. By lap 190, Lepak worked is way around Kocourek and four laps later,
he edged past Schill for third as Bennett extended his lead over Mueller. On
lap 202, Lepak raced is way around Mueller for second and began to close the
distance to Bennett for the lead. Bennett’s lead proved to be too much
however, and he drove to a 4.8 second victory over Lepak and Mueller.
Kocourek finished with a strong fourth place result and Conrad Morgan ran
solid all night to cross the stripe in fifth place, the final car on the
lead lap. Schill fell back in the late stages and finished in sixth place
ahead of NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series driver Erik Darnell who turned in his
best Nationals performance in seventh place. Defending track champion David
Prunty took the checkered flag in eighth place while Kelly Bires was ninth,
the final car running at the finish. Fred Winn finished in the tenth
position.
Tommy Pecaro was the winner of the 35-lap late model semi-feature over Race
McComb and James Swan. Chris Wimmer and Randy Schuler rounded out the top
five. Bennett took the win in the 30-lap late model qualifying race over
David Prunty, Josh Bauer, and Todd Stapleman as all four transferred their
way into the main event. Kyle Busch blistered the speedway in 11.400 seconds
and was the fastest qualifier among the 45 late model entries.
Schill Victorious In 60th Anniversary Special presented by Goemans Rapid
Mart!!
By John Wiedemann
(Slinger, WI);
July 15, 2007 - Al Schill chased
down leader Lowell Bennett to win the Goemans Rapid Mart 75 at Slinger Super
Speedway Sunday night. With under ten laps to go in the race, the Slinger
veteran made his move and went on to capture his second win of the season on
a night celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the speedway.
Taking the
lead on the opening lap of the Goemans Rapid Mart 75, Lowell Bennett looked
to have the contest in hand as the race ran without a caution flag. As
Bennett ran at the front, Al Schill methodically picked off spots, moving
into second with twenty laps on the scoreboard. Lapped traffic came into
play and Schill moved closer and closer to Bennett until, with ten laps left
in the race, Schill was on Bennett’s bumper. When Bennett opened the door in
turn one, Schill took advantage and grabbed the lead. Bennett held on to
second, followed by Fred Winn. David Prunty charged through the pack to
finish fourth with Dale Prunty coming home fifth and Dennis Prunty in sixth.
“I didn’t think I was gonna get there but, I kept seeing Lowell get bigger
and bigger and that’s a good sign,” explained Schill. “But, it wasn’t
happening for a long time. He was getting looser and looser and I needed the
laps that I had left to get him.”
KEITH'S MARINA 85 GOES
TO PRUNTY!!!
By Dan Margetta
Slinger, Wis., July 1—David Prunty found himself in the right place at the
right time, utilizing the outside groove to storm into the lead with 12 laps
to go and driving to victory in the Keith’s Marina 85 Sunday night at the
Slinger Super Speedway.
“The outside lane came in late, “Prunty explained to the crowd from
victory lane, “The outside was definitely the place to go.”
Conrad Morgan set the pace at the drop of the green flag as he edged
ahead of Dennis Prunty, Nick Hammer, Matt Kocourek, and Mike Strupp while
behind them David Prunty, Brad Mueller, and Lowell Bennett began to advance
forward from deep in the field. Morgan continued to set the pace as Dennis
Prunty dogged him for the top spot, racing directly on his rear bumper
throughout the first 30 laps. Prunty was able to take command of the event
on lap 31 following a nudge to Morgan in turn two while David Prunty,
Mueller, and Bennett found themselves on the edges of the top five by lap
40. Morgan was able to keep Dennis Prunty in his sights as the leaders
weaved their way through lapped traffic while Hammer held down the third
slot just ahead of the trio of David Prunty, Mueller, and Bennett. The first
caution flag of the race flew on lap 72 following an incident involving Fred
Winn and James Swan in turn three and as the field lined up for the restart,
Dennis Prunty chose the inside lane, leaving Morgan to take to the outside.
Dennis Prunty’s car kicked loose exiting turn four as the green flag
appeared and Morgan was able to briefly get a jump for the lead, but as the
cars raced through turn two, Morgan’s car also dirt-tracked sideways and
Prunty was able to make up the lost ground. As Dennis Prunty and Morgan
battled side by side off turn four, Morgan’s car again washed loose and he
slide sideways into the infield while David Prunty stayed on the gas in the
outer groove to drive into the lead on the outside from third place. Moments
after David Prunty took the lead, Hammer looped his car around in turn two
and numerous cars spun to avoid the incident as the race was slowed again
with David Prunty leading Dennis Prunty, Bennett, Mueller, and Kocourek.
David Prunty chose the outside lane for the restart and launched into the
lead at the drop of the green flag while Dennis Prunty held back the charges
of Bennett, Mueller, and Al Schill, who moved into the top five. With David
Prunty pulling away, Bennett was able to nose to the inside of Dennis Prunty
for second as the laps wound down but both cars made side-to-side contact on
the frontstretch but as the cars bounced off each other, neither driver lost
control and the race remained green. The dust-up did however, allow Mueller
and Schill to charge by into second and third place respectively. No one
could catch David Prunty in the closing laps and he drove to his fourth
feature win in five weeks while Mueller finished a strong second. Schill
advanced to the main event through the semi-feature and ended the night with
a respectable third place result while Dennis Prunty and Bennett rounded out
the top five.
Al Schill was the winner of the 30-lap late model semi-feature over Matt
Raudabaugh and Mike Meyerhofer. Randy Schuler finished in fourth place and
Race McComb took the checkered flag in fifth. Scott Schoeni was victorious
in the 15-lap late model consi over Brady Bennett and Steve Schulz. Dan
Lensing and Shawn Roethle completed the top five. Dale Prunty was the
winner of the late model fast dash and Brad Mueller was the fastest
qualifier at 11.452 seconds.

KENSETH TOPS FIRST SUPPLY ALL-STAR
CHALLENGE AT MIS!!!
By Dan Margetta
Oregon, Wis, (June 26) Continuing to add to his stellar list of
accomplishments, Matt Kenseth drove to victory Tuesday night at the Madison
International Speedway in dominating fashion in the First Supply All-Star
Challenge presented by Capitol City Harley-Davidson to notch his first win
in the annual late model special.
“Im just glad I didn’t have to race against any other Pathfinder Chassis,”
Kenseth commented alluding to his potent ride that led 78 laps of the
100-lap event. “From the first lap on the race track, I knew we had a great
car,” Kenseth continued, “It turned so great in the middle it was just fun
to drive.”
Starting from the inside of the second row, Kenseth followed early leader
Steve Carlson for the opening 21 laps before seizing an opportunity to take
command of the race with an outside move exiting turn two on lap 22.
”He’s (Carlson) so smooth, I knew he wasn’t going to miss the
bottom,”Kenseth stated, describing his early battle for the top spot. “So I
just went to the outside and gassed it.”
Once out front, Kenseth was never seriously challenged, easing out to a
substantial lead following restarts through six caution periods before
driving to a twelve car-length victory over Mark Eswein and Nathan Haseleu.
Eswein and Haseleu provided the best drama on the speedway in the closing
laps as they raced door to door for the runner-up spot with Eswein edging
Haseleu at the finish.
“I’m real proud of our team and the effort,”Eswein stated. “My two favorite
NASCAR drivers are Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart (who finished 7th) and Nate
(Haseleu) is my good friend, so it was a fun night.”
“We just missed it in the second half,” Haseleu said after following Kenseth
for most of the night before being nipped for second by Eswein. “We were
pretty loose there at the end and the halfway break hurt us because we made
the wrong adjustments.”
Eddie Hoffman used a late race charge to capture the fourth spot at the
checkered flag while Jacob Humphrey ran what may be considered his best race
to date, coming home with a solid and respectable fifth place finish. Jeremy
Lepak crossed the stripe in sixth place and NASCAR Nextel Cup star Tony
Stewart raced among the top-runners all night to notch a seventh place
result.
“This is only my fifth pavement late model race,” Stewart told an
enthusiastic crowd estimated at 8,000. “I got a chance to follow Matt (Kenseth)
earlier and picked up three tenths. There’s a lot of good guys out here so
in 100 laps, I was bound to learn something.”
Dave Feiler, Chad Wood, and Bobby Wilberg rounded out the top ten finishers
in the large 36-car field.
Steve Carlson launched into the lead at the start from his outside front row
starting position while Kenseth and Jeremy Lepak battled for second with
Kenseth taking the position on lap three. A spin by Trent Snyder in turn
four drew the first caution flag on lap nine with Carlson leading Kenseth,
Lepak, Wilberg, and Dave Feiler. As racing resumed, Carlson and Kenseth once
again marched ahead of the pack while Haseleu moved up to challenge Feiler
and Wilberg for positions in the top five.
Andy Monday found the wall in turn four on lap 15 and the event was slowed
under the yellow flag again. This time as the green flag appeared, Kenseth
was able to stay with Carlson and after dogging him on the inside for a few
laps, moved up to the outside groove to pull alongside on lap 21. As the two
leaders exited turn two on lap 22, Kenseth was able to build momentum on the
high side and he raced by Carlson and into the lead.
A minor tangle between Gregg Ruffalo and Kyle Kinder in turn two on lap 44
brought out another caution flag on lap 44, just before the field took a
mandatory break at the halfway mark on lap 50 with Kenseth leading Carlson,
Haseleu, Eswein, and Humphrey.
The race’s second half was conducted relatively incident-free as Kenseth
maintained his lead while Haseleu worked on Carlson for second. Haseleu
eventually made his bid work on lap 62, moving to the inside to take the
spot while Eswein closed in fourth. Carlson found himself slipping up the
speedway and by the time he could regroup, both Eswein and Humphrey had made
their way by. A spin by Tommy Pecaro off turn two on lap 80 set up a
twenty-lap dash to the finish. The field barely received the green flag when
mechanical problems on Kelly Bires’ car created a logjam that sent Dennis
Prunty nosing along the frontstretch wall as the yellow reappeared.
This time as racing resumed, Kenseth was able to leap out ahead of Haseleu
who had his hands full with Eswein while farther back Eddie Hoffman began to
come to life, racing around Stewart and charging through the field. With
Kenseth comfortably in the lead, Eswein moved alongside Haseleu to challenge
for second, finally making the move stick with four laps to go while Hoffman
continued his charge, maneuvering around Humphrey to grab fourth. At the
finish, Kenseth took the checkered flag first to score the win followed by
Eswein and Haseleu while Hoffman and Humphrey finished fourth and fifth
respectively.
Haseleu topped the speed charts in qualifying after touring the speedway in
17.683 seconds. Trent Snyder was the winner of the first qualifying race
over Chad Wood and Todd Kluever. Matt Kocourek and Nick Hammer rounded out
the top five. Dexter Bean took the win in the second qualifying heat race
over Jonathan Eilen and Steve Rubeck. Dennis Prunty and Gregg Ruffalo were
fourth and fifth respectively.

BENNETT WINS SECOND
OF YEAR IN UEMSI REUNION NIGHT 75!!!
By Dan Margetta
(Slinger, WI) June 17—Lowell Bennett captured his second late model feature
win of the season Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway, holding off
David Prunty to win the UEMSI Reunion Night 75.
“I watched him (Prunty) back there,” Bennett explained later, alluding to
Prunty beginning to close the gap to the lead late in the going. “I’ve got
my hands full trying to beat him this year, but it was a fun night.”
Bennett jumped into the lead from the outside of the front row at the
start while Matt Kocourek and Dale Prunty battled over second. Prunty held
tough on the outside and slid in front of Kocourek for second by lap ten
while Gary LaMonte and Al Schill raced in fourth and fifth place
respectively. The caution flag flew on lap 16 when Nick Hammer looped his
car in turn one, allowing Prunty and Kocourek to close on Bennett for the
lead. Bennett was up to the task on the restart and once again eased ahead
as Prunty again held off Kocourek for second. Behind the top three, Schill
used the inside to grab fourth place from LaMonte and Collin Bamke followed
suit to take fifth as LaMonte became caught on the high side.
The field settled down in the middle stages with the top five remaining
relatively unchanged while David Prunty gradually worked his way forward
into the sixth position by lap 40. Mike Strupp suddenly slowed while exiting
turn two on lap 44 while running in the top ten and the ensuing traffic jam
behind him caught up Josh Bauer, sending his car into the wall on the
backstretch to bring out the caution. This time as the green appeared, it
was Prunty who made a significant gain on the outside, moving from sixth to
third while Bennett continued to lead. By lap 60, David Prunty again used
the outside to slip by Dale Prunty for second and began to try to erase
Bennett’s lead. While Prunty chased Bennett, Nick Schumacher also found life
on the outside and he marched ahead to secure the third spot with five laps
to go. Bennett was able to maintain his lead all the way to the checkered
flag to pick up his second feature win of the season. David Prunty finished
a strong second while Schumacher, Dale Prunty, and Schill rounded out the
top five.
Mike Meyerhofer picked up his first Slinger Super Speedway win by taking
top honors in the 30-lap late model semi-feature. Florian Wisinski was
second ahead of Scott Schoeni, Chris Carlson, and Randy Schuler. Al Schill
was the winner of the late model fast dash and Collin Bamke was the fastest
qualifier with a lap of 11.540 seconds.

The white unsponsored #42 was back at the track
on Sunday night, but Dennis had a tough time getting it figured out.
He qualified 23rd which didn't qualify him for the feature event. He
had to race in through the Semi-feature which he did by finishing 2nd and
moving on to the feature. In feature event he started in the back, but
was quickly moving through the pack until the first caution when Mike Strupp
let off and caused an accoridan effect behind him. Leaving a lot of
damaged race cars. Dennis had front end damage and pulled off the
track. The crew quickly got things fixed and pulled the body off of
the front of the car. He came back and ran a few more laps, but then
had to pull off and was not able to finish the race. Another tough
night for the DDP Motorsports team...
David Prunty Wins E.H.
Wolf & Sons 80 at Slinger Speedway!
by Dean Strom
(Slinger, WI); May 27, 2007
- Defending Slinger Speedway
late model track champion David Prunty captured his second feature win of
the season Sunday night, scoring a convincing win in the E.H. Wolf & Sons
80. Prunty crossed the strip ahead of Brad Mueller and John Mueller.
“I made the crew work for it today,” said Prunty. “We showed up with the
wrong right front suspension and changes during every practice session and
before qualifying. But we got it right for a cool track.”
Mike Strupp and John Mueller started from row one while Prunty rolled off
from the fifth spot. Strupp took the lead at the drop of the green while
John Mueller and Al Schill settled in behind him. John Mueller got pinned on
the outside lane, allowing Schill and Prunty to sneak by before he could get
to the bottom.
Prunty, however, was busy making it look easy, moving past fourth starting
Nick Hammer at the drop of the green and moved to the outside of Schill on
lap five. Schill’s night came to an abrupt halt immediately after Prunty got
by as the five-time speedway late model track champion’s car lost power. By
lap 10 Prunty shot under Strupp for the lead and immediately opened up a
healthy advantage.
Ninth starting Brad Mueller was on the move early, working past Dale Prunty
and into top five by lap 10. Brad Mueller quickly dispatched of fourth
running Hammer and set his sights on side-by-side running John Mueller and
Strupp.
John Mueller eventually got past Strupp, just prior to the events first
caution, triggered when Mike Strupp got sideways in turn three. Rookie Dale
Prunty, Dennis Prunty, Tony Strupp, Travis Dassow and Matt Kocourek
all got tangled up with Mike Strupp in the wild incident. Mike Strupp and
Dassow suffered the worst damage and were done for the night.
When the field came down for the green, it was John Mueller who lined up
alongside the leader Prunty. Brad Mueller went from the inside of row two.
Brad quickly got past John before the caution flew again, this time for a
Tony Strupp and Hammer spin off of turn two on lap 32. Both Strupp and
Hammer were sent to the rear of the field as Brad Mueller, the winner of the
seasons opening event, lined up alongside Prunty on the subsequent restart.
He, however, could only watch as Prunty drove off to a solid lead.
The remaining distance ran caution-free. The most spirited battle of the
night occurred between Dale Prunty and John Mueller as they raced
side-by-side for nearly 50 laps. John Mueller eventually prevailed and
captured the third spot as Dale Prunty settled for fourth. Rich Loch
finished fifth while Jeremy Lepak made a last lap pass of Lowell Bennett to
finish sixth.
Earlier in the evening, Brad Mueller scored the fast dash. Tony Strupp
notched his first fast qualifier award in eight years, touring the ¼-mile
oval at 11.490 seconds.

Piggly Wiggly Stomp Out Hunger 60!...
(Slinger Speedway - Slinger, WI); May 6, 2007
Behind the leaders, Shawn Roethle’s
car appeared to get crossed up coming off turn two and he tangled with Fred
Winn, sending Roethle’s car up the racetrack in turn three and into Dennis
Prunty. Prunty’s car smacked the turn three wall hard and the race was
slowed under the yellow flag.
Dennis is a very sore after hitting the wall very hard, but the car is in
worse shape. He will be needing to re-stub the car. Dennis has
post-poned his racing schedule for now and is going to working on both the
white car and the blue car and is hoping to have one of them done by
Memorial day.

SPEEDWAY - EMILY'S WINE & DINE 60
(Slinger Speedway - Slinger, WI); April 29, 2007)
Dennis came to Slinger
once again with his blue WCS car since his white car is still not ready.
He qualified and started 12th and worked his way up to an 8th place finish.
Dennis will either be racing Madison or Slinger next Sunday, but he has not
decided as to which one he will be attending. I imagine it will depend
on how much gets done at the shop this week. Stay tuned for more
information...

SPEEDWAY SEASON OPENER...
(Slinger Speedway - Slinger, WI); April 22, 2007
Dennis Prunty surprised everyone by bringing the blue WCS car to the Slinger
Season opener on Sunday. It was not an event that was on his schedule.
It was a last minute decision and as Dennis put it...
“they can’t put it in you
and they can’t take it out”
referring to the racing itch. Dennis qualified 19th just ahead of his
brother Dale's Rookie debut who qualified 20th. Dennis was passing
cars left and right and pulled off a 6th place finish.
Dennis is not sure of his plans for next weekend. His engine is not in
his white Slinger car nor is the body on the car. He may take the blue
car again, but that decision has not been made at this time. Stay
tuned for more updates... |
